*UPDATE* Check out the Penitent Thieves session recordings from Worship God west here.
This past week myself and a band from my church called Penitent Thieves led by my son Josh had the privilege of attending WorshipGod West in Orange County CA. It was great being with many great friends and participating in all that the Lord was doing among us.
Penitent Thieves led worship Friday morning and I had the joy of mixing for them. They were, by far, my favorite band, but I might be a little bias. Josh's set list consisted of "Come Thou fount", "You Will Never Change", written by my son Joel, "Shine into our night" written by my son Joel, "Grace alone", "What wondrous love is this?", and "My life is an offering" written by my son Joel and I. You can watch the video we made of that song here.
Though the arrangements were creative and well prepared and the musicianship was outstanding, the most amazing thing was seeing Jesus being exalted. Many asked where they could get their music and wondered of they had any CD's. We are hoping to post some new videos in the next couple weeks and they're planning on recording a CD but need your help.
Penitent Thieves had to leave the conference Friday afternoon to get back to Canada for a wedding and on the way home the flight attendant asked them to play a song on the decent into Seattle, soon the whole plane was filled with whatever instruments they had handy on them. The flight attendant announced the band and the plane clapped. Once they arrived in Seattle they busked in front of the Seattle airport for an hour before being picked up to head back to Canada.
It seems like the Lord has been giving them real favour everywhere they play. Last night we went downtown Vancouver and busked on Canada Day and many again were asking if they have CD's. We ended up in a restaurant and sang "All My Tears" where everyone was up on their feet clapping and taking pictures. We pray for this continued favour, and ask you to pray with us. Their main goal is to see Christ glorified and his name made great. If they can stand on a street corner, play in a pub, or sing in a airplane, they will. It's one more time they can make music and proclaim Christ.
It seems like it's the time for them to record but they are in need of finances. If you'd like to contribute you can donate here . Until we have enough money we'll keep making videos and trust the Lord will provide. My sons Joel, Josh and myself plan on writing new songs for their album.
Many at the conference said to me, 'You must be very proud of your boys', to which I would say, 'I'm so grateful'. God has been very kind
What a privilege to write and make music with my sons. I pray that we continue to be a blessing to you all and that the songs we write and record will point you again and again to Jesus and that your heart will be filled afresh with love for him as you sing them.
