Listen... Your God is singing over you!
The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing. Zephaniah 3:17
One commentary calls this verse the John 3:16 of the Old Testament. God delights in those he has redeemed. As he looks upon the transformation he has brought about in your life he bursts into song over you.
The reason we have a song to sing is because God sings over us all the time.
Our permanent and present reality…
God the Mighty One lives among us. He’s with us and for us FOREVER! The heroic Warrior has bought salvation for his people. He has declared peace over us. There will never be a battle cry again from him against our sin. There’s no more hostility towards those he loves.
He has adopted us as his children. Children never get disowned for being naughty. Jesus is not ashamed to call us bothers (Heb. 2:11) and Jesus’ Father is not ashamed to be known as ours.
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. 1 John 1:3
“The Puritan Richard Sibbes once said that a Christian singing God’s praises to the world is like a bird singing. Birds sing loudest, he said, when the sun rises and warms them; and so it is with Christians; when they are warmed by the light of the world, by the love of God in Christ, that is when they sing loudest.” (Delighting in the Trinity, Michael Reeves)
Listen… Your God and Father is singing over you right now. Why not respond and sing loudly like a bird being warmed by the Love of God in Christ.
