No one can come unless the Father draws them
A little over a year ago my neighbor and his wife informed Cherry and I that they would like to attend our church. The initial reason for attending was for their children but God was drawing Steve in a powerful, unique way. I had asked him over the years if he'd like to attend various activities or events at the church but there never seemed to be any interest, or at least I didn't pick up on anything.
The first service they attended I remember feeling so stressed that the jump from no church background to this very, in your face gospel proclamation. Unfortunately, I was a man of great faith and power, believing that God can do anything and I thought, "Surely these people think we're crazy and I doubt they'll be around long."
I thought I should help God out a little so I invited them to a small group meeting at my house where I was hoping people would be on their best behavior, that we wouldn't sing or pray much, just hang out and let them see how normal Christian can be. The past few weeks of church had been a little more radical than the "typical" Sunday, this seemed safe. I was not leading the group, just hosting and within a few minutes we were singing up a storm standing in a small circle where you could almost smell the breath of the one across from you. People were praying, and they were praying VERY long prayers. Talking about God in a way where I thought, "This is the end, they're not coming to church ever again!" That small group meeting was on the Wednesday night. Two days later, Friday afternoon this is the email I receive in my inbox.
I just have to get this out. I am bursting with Joy and Love. God’s love? – it must be. Tears of joy streaming down my cheeks right now. It is like a contagion of happiness that I cannot contain.
First sensed something working in me last week. It kind of ebbed and flowed a bit but since we met at your house on Wednesday evening the Love in my heart has been getting stronger and stronger. A week like I have had would normally put me in a pit of despair but wow this is really cool. I am so thankful. I look forward to the journey I have ahead of me.
I am really looking forward to church this Sunday and then having lunch with you and your family.
I Love God and I Love Jesus and thank him for bringing me to this beautiful place.
Above is a short video of what God has been doing in my friends life since the Father has made him his very own. Let us proclaim Christ, let us demonstrate Christ and let us leave the drawing and the saving to our Father. He doesn't need my help or yours.
Jesus said in John 6:44 "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him."
