“Emotion without truth produces empty frenzy” John Piper
We’ve probably all observed “empty frenzy” at one time or another in a corporate gathering. When I gather with God’s people I find myself tempted to focus more on the beat, the arrangement of the song, or what the electric guitar is doing, rather than on the One I’m singing about. When we are caught up with those secondary things empty frenzy is a possibility. We must not lose sight of why we gather. We gather as God’s redeemed people to sing to our Saviour, to tell of His great love for us, and to proclaim His greatness. The fact that he allows us to do all that with music is amazing. What a gift! But if we’re not careful we can find ourselves focusing on the good gift of music more than on Christ, the greatest gift given by the Father.
Music is a gift from God, let us enjoy it to the fullest but lets make sure we see it for what it is, a gift from God; and let us make sure we treasure the greatest gift given by the Father, Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
